Nasr Chamma is an architect and humanitarian, based in Ottawa, Canada. He holds three master's degrees and a PhD in architecture from the UIC-Barcelona. He has been a designer with different architectural firms and humanitarian organizations and NGOs, including UNHCR-Jordan, where he focused his research and projects on Syrian refugee camps. This work included collaboration and interventions at the Zaatari and Azraq camps, which provide accommodation to around 120,000 people living in over 40,000 shelter units. He has also been campaigning for the importance of rethinking refugee camps through articles, seminars, open lectures and by working on new models of emergency and sustainable settlements for future refugee crises, models that are better suited and adapted to support refugees, improve living conditions and minimize suffering.
