José Cubilla received his architecture degree from the Universidad Nacional de Asunción, where he is now professor of design. He has received many recognitions and awards including most recently in 2021 the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture given by the UNESCO, and the FAD International Award for Interventions in la Chacarita as part of the BIAU. He has also been shortlisted by the juries of the the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize (MCHAP) in 2016 for the Takurú House and the Oscar Niemeyer Award for Latin American Architecture (Premio ON) in 2018 for the San Francisco building. His work has been published widely and he has lectured and led workshops at numerous international universities.
