Bureo Skateboards

The skateboard brand aims to reduce sea pollution by recycling discarded fishing nets

Founded in Chile in 2017,  this company manufactures recycled skateboards through “Net Positiva” — Chile’s first-ever nationwide fishnet collection and recycling program that provides fisherman with disposal points for old nets, allowing Bureo to collect the ocean’s recycling bins and use that material to make new products. Nets are separated, cleaned, shredded, pelletized and injection-molded into skateboard decks. In the process, Bureo also provides a free service to the fishermen, who would otherwise have to pay to throw the nets into landfills — a privatized business in Chile. They also compensate the fishermen, paying them the current market price of the fishing net.
