An Aging World
Demographic change is emerging as one of the major issues we must face now and in the future. This trend has been developing for some time, but the sudden increase in life expectancy combined with low fertility rates have accelerated this process, making it a widespread phenomenon affecting almost every country in the world. The consequences of this shift will bring radical change to cultural and social dynamics, and to existing economic and educational structures. We will need to address questions such as: can living longer also mean living better? How can seniors continue to contribute to society in an active, meaningful way? We must work with a certain sense of urgency to design new typologies that will affect almost all aspects of daily life, from healthcare to housing; from transport to urban design.
