New Delhi’s rapid urbanization is the focus of the new book Yamuna River Project: New Delhi Urban Ecology
New Delhi lies in the northern region of India, situated on the sacred yet severely polluted Yamuna River. In the last 25 years, the city, which is a centre for commerce and culture in India, has tripled its population – it is now home to more than 20 million people.
The Yamuna River Project, directed by Iñaki Alday and Pankaj Vir Gupta, has the capability of changing their lives for the better. Taking a holistic and varied approach, the project addresses this complex urban problem from many angles, including environmental degradation, urbanization, and economic insecurity.
