What is a border?

An architect’s subversive reimagining of the US-Mexico border wall

Building on his recent book “Borderwall as Architecture”, architect Ronald Rael examines what the physical barrier that divides the United States of America from the United Mexican States is and could be. In this TED talk, he sheds light on the notion of the wall as an overly simplistic response to a deeply complex context in which cultures mix and merge, in sometimes violent and occasionally ridiculous ways. He shares satirical, serious works of art inspired by the borderlands and reveals the border we don’t see in the news, subverting our preconceptions of what is a highly controversial approach to immigration and the flow of humans across territories.
