ARCHITECTURE MUSIC · MUSICIANS ARCHITECTS is a series organised by Roca and Figueras Seating.
Now in its fifth season, it alternates between the Roca Barcelona Gallery, the Roca Madrid Gallery and the Roca London Gallery.
MUSIC AS CHARACTER, ARCHITECTURE AS STAGE… AND VICE VERSA
The session explores architectural experiences developed by architects -professionals responsible for the materialisation of buildings across a range of scales and contexts- that provide spaces where music, architecture and natural or urban landscapes coexist; at times, in a relationship as intimate as that of designing and building a musical instrument.
The invited speakers are: AZPML, Alejandro Zaera-Polo and Maider Llaguno, responsible for the design of the Fundación Cerezales Antonino y Cinia; Flanagan Lawrence Architects, authors of the project for the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama; and Emma-Kate Matthews, who will present design and production processes for small-scale constructions that emit sound and, in the right hands…music.
Following a cross-dialogue among the speakers, the session concludes with a performative proposal: a sonic/musical situation by Pablo Padilla: a recreation of soundscapes through the spatial dimension of sound and our physical and psychological connections with urban environments.
After the session, attendees are invited to continue the discussion informally, while music accompanies the close of the evening.
