Maria Smith

Maria Smith is an architect, engineer, writer and curator working across disciplines to bring the built environment in line with planetary limits. She is a director at Webb Yates Engineers where she leads a transdisciplinary group focused on reducing energy use and carbon emissions in the built environment. In 2019 she was co-chief curator of the Oslo Architecture Triennale entitled Enough: The Architecture of Degrowth, which explored the architecture of a new economy based on social and environmental justice. She is a trustee of the Architecture Foundation, one of the Mayor of London’s Design Advocates where she sits on the Circular Economy Sounding Board, and a nationally elected member the RIBA Council. She cofounded the international series of politics and architecture debates, Turncoats, and sits on the steering group of Architects Declare.
