Satoko Shinohara

Satoko Shinohara is a graduate of Japan Women’s University, from which she also completed her master’s degree in 1983. From 1983-85 she worked at Hisao Kohyama Atelier and in 1986 she established Spatial Design Studio in Tokyo. Since 1997, she has taught at Japan Women’s University, where in 2020 she was appointed President. She has engaged in extensive research about innovation in housing design, about which she has written numerous articles and books. Her work has been recognized with awards such as the Prize of the Architectural Institute of Japan (AIJ) and the Home Environmental Design Award Environmental Design Grand Prize for the groundbreaking shared housing project SHAREyaraicho, and more recently in 2022 the Wood Utilization Contest Wood Utilization Award for the Gokakuken house.
