Valerie Mace is a Course Leader at the University of the Arts London (UAL), London College of Communication (LCC), where she teaches spatial experience design. She is also a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy. Her research explores multisensory practises and how design enriches relations between people and their environment, with a focus on emotions and wellbeing. Previous work includes investigations into architectural atmospheres and, more recently, a phenomenological study of transient domesticity in the urban interior published in “Interior Futures.” She is currently working on a doctoral research project investigating the concept of intimacy to explore how design can nurture an individual’s ability to develop positive emotional connections with the public interior.
