Documentary “The First Siza”

Building Pictures and Roca Lisboa Gallery invite you on January 22, at 6:30 p.m., to an intimate screening of the documentary “The First Siza”, which will be attended by director Sara Nunes. 


Sara Nunes was born in 1985 in Lisbon. She obtained her master's degree in Architecture in 2009 from the Escola Superior Artística do Porto and the Universität Kassel (Germany). She worked for two years in Madrid as an architect (2011-2012) at the Ensamble Studio. In Madrid, she fell in love with cinema and, in 2013, she returned to Portugal, where she created an architectural film production company: BUILDING PICTURES, producing more than 300 short films by 2021. 

In 2021, he launched the podcast No País dos Arquitetos (In the Land of Architects), featuring nationally and internationally renowned guests, reaching over 100 countries, 100,000 plays, 150 published texts, and three exhibitions. In 2022, he premiered WoodStories, which received international acclaim, and in 2023 he presented Back to the City, screened at festivals outside Portugal. In 2024, she received the Architecture Innovation Award (Prémios Forma) and is currently developing several documentaries, including In the Age of Cities, O Fotógrafo Voador (The Flying Photographer), and a film about Eduardo Souto de Moura.


In 2025, Sara Nunes released the film “The First Siza”, which had its preview at the Serralves Museum, attended by Álvaro Siza Vieira. The documentary portrays the architect's first project and his reunion with his first client sixty years later, and was awarded the Best Film Award at the Cinema Urbana festival in Brasília.
