Michael Salka

Barcelona, Spain

Michael Salka is Codirector of the Master in Advanced Ecological Buildings and Biocities (MAEBB) and Technical Director of Valldaura Labs at the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC), as well as a Gates PhD Scholar at the University of Cambridge. His career has harnessed environmental forces through the realization of water infrastructures in Africa via Engineers Without Borders; net-zero energy neighborhoods and urban infill projects as an architect in the USA; and self-sufficient prototypical engineered timber buildings, public spaces, and future “Biocities” as a researcher in Europe. He has published articles in peer-reviewed journals as well as books such as “Transforming Biocities” (Springer Nature, 2023), while developing projects funded by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) and the New European Bauhaus (NEB).
