Vicente Guallart

Vicente Guallart is an architect, urban planner, and researcher. From 2011-15, he was the Chief Architect of Barcelona. He is cofounder of the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) and the Fab Lab Barcelona, where he has carried out projects such as the Media House Project (2001) together with the MIT Media Lab, the Fab Lab House (2010) and the Solar Green House and Voxel, developed at Valldaura Labs, where he currently directs the Master in Advanced Ecological Buildings and Biocities (MAEBB), which investigates wood construction. His professional practice has developed numerous ecological buildings in Europe and Asia, including post-COVID housing in Xiong’an, China and a 40-unit social housing project in Barcelona. His work has been featured at the Venice Architecture Biennale and the MoMA exhibition “On-Site: New Architecture in Spain.” He is the author "The Self-Sufficient City" (ACTAR, 2014) and “Geologics" (ACTAR, 2018).
